Breadsticks

Ingredients for 12 breadsticks
Directions
1 cup (8 oz.) warm water (115°F)

2 1/4 teaspoons of yeast

1/2 teaspoon of sugar

1 teaspoon of salt

2 cups of bread flour, plus more for dusting

Olive oil
1. In a large bowl, poor in the warm water. Sprinkle the yeast in an even layer on top of the water, and let sit for 5 minutes.

2. Add the sugar, salt, and flour to the bowl (when adding the flour, add it slowly, so the water doesn’t splash). Use your hands and mix together until all ingredients are combined. If the ball of dough is too dry, add a splash of olive oil to the dough.

3. Lightly flour a clean surface. Take your ball of dough out of the bowl and knead for 7 minutes. Shape your dough into a smooth ball, and take some olive oil and rub around the bowl and your ball of dough and carefully set your ball of dough in the bowl. Cover with a towel and leave in a warm spot for an hour and five minutes to prove.

4. Once your dough has finished proving, cut it into 12 pieces, and roll them into the shape of a breadstick. Try not to fold, play or mess with your dough too much, because otherwise the bread might split when baking. Once you have finished shaping your breadsticks, place them on a parchment lined baking tray. Cover with a towel and leave in a warm spot for 30 minutes.

5. Meanwhile, preheat your oven to 400°F. Once the dough has finished proving, brush with an egg wash, and make shallow slashes across the bread and sprinkle with salt and other seasonings, if desired. Bake the breadsticks for 16-17 minutes. Let cool and enjoy!
